Word Crashes when switcing between multiple documents

I am not sure what to do. I have a Dell Inspiron with Office XP. If I have
two files open, and want to switch to the secondary file. When I do so, the
entire application closes, and gives me some sort of a normal.dot error,
asking if I should save it as it has changed. I always select no. I have
updated by installing latest SPs etc, but did not help. What can I do?
