Word crashes whilst saving

I have a mac lab running Jaguar and office X when the users save to
their network folders from word they are told that they cant save as
the drive may be out of space or lacking write access it also dumps a
24mb file named d_1 onto the folder.
Help
I have upgraded to office x ver 1.5 and this hasnt helped
