Word Crashing on Startup

R

Rick

When Word 2003 starts up, it looks like it is trying to
recover a document, then it crashes.

I have tried the following:

- Uninstalling and reinstalling
- Deleting the normal.dot
- Replacing the normal.dot with a known good one.
- Looking for documents that it might try to be auto-
recovering, but found none.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Uninstalling/reinstalling never works. Follow the tips in this FAQ:

i have a similar situation. Using IBM 600X with WinXP
Home, 448 MB ram (recently installed), a new CD-RW/DVD,
and a new HD (Hitachi 40 G GNX), using Office XP Pro,
also using Word 2000.

When I run Word the screen looks OK for about ten seconds
and then a panel pops up saying Word has a problem and
needs to close. If I click more info I get:
AppName: Winword.exe
AppVer: 10.0.5522.0
ModName:bruhl01a.dll
ModV: 0.2.0.0
offset: 00002c76

Then it asks if I want to send a report to MS. I do! I
do! and then it finished that and goes to Recover mode,
trying to recover a file--although there is no file as
far as i know to recover--I've just started Word!

I've tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling,
uninstalling and installing Word 2000 instead. All
produce the same result. Word is useless cause it cycles
through this, that is, if you get to the revovery part
it "recovers" a blank screen and the repeats the
appearance of the Word has troubles and needs to close
panel.

Driving me nuts, as you can imagine. Anyone heard of this
or have a clue?

Many thanks. Pls be merciful.

That looks like a Brother Printer driver corruption. But read the article as
replied above.
