Word - Cut and Paste

For some unknown reason teh following has begun to occur and I could use some
help to fix the problem.

When I cut a string of test and attempt to paste it over highlighted text,
it does not type over the highlighted text. It merely inserts it. I have no
idea why this started. Can anyone help?

Tools > Options > Edit
Typing replaces selection

That did it. I don't know how it got unchecked, but that took care of the
problem.
