WORD = Dangerously low on resources

98se windows.

Everytime I try to load Word, it either crash's my comp or
comes up with a warning "Dangerously low on Resources".
But the resource meter says everthing is 68% free. I Close
every running programme down, same thing happends. I have
cleared all cache's, run defrag and scandisk, disk clean
and virus checker. My comp must be the cleanest on the
planet. I have uninstalled word and re-installed....same
thing.
This all started out of the blue.
Any help would be much appreiciated.
