Hi Nicole,
Try copying the character by selecting it then pressing Ctrl-C. Then
paste into the 'Find' box.
If that doesn't work, try copying a single whole string into Excel, then
deleting all except one problem character. Then, in an adjoining cell,
enter =CODE(A1), where A1 is the cell you pasted the text into. What value
does Excel return? Back in Word, open the 'Find' box and hold down the Alt
key while inputting the number Excel gave you as a 3-digit value (add
leading 0s if needed).
Cheers

Thanks for the reply Jay! I have tried your method thought the character
is
not being recognised by WORD when i try to paste it (i tried ctrl v and
also
via the icon - no success) in 'Find/Replace'. I dont think the square (or
upside down rectangle) is in fact a character as I would be able to
cut/paste
(even a symbol) into other applications. I can cut and paste (using quick
keys/icons) into the same document though that is it. I have cut/pasted a
segment of the doc (see below - eg1) - as you can see the sq/rect is not
showing and there is no break in the text:
(eg1): 981005Grosper Pty Limited (Marty Perry)Application for Off-Licence
(Wholesale):- Beverly Hills Cellars, 497 King Georges Rd, Beverly
Hills17.07.9719.12.970071 (Box 4)
Where I require the tabs is as follows (see below eg2 @ *)
(eg2): 981005**Grosper Pty Limited (Marty Perry)*Application for
Off-Licence
(Wholesale):- Beverly Hills Cellars, 497 King Georges Rd, Beverly
Hills*17.07.97*19.12.97*0071 (Box 4)**
This document is driving me crazy.... i've exhausted all avenues in the
help
system - please save me Jay!!
