Word doc corrupt; can't make PDF or print

T

trixierobin

Using OSX 10.3.9 with Office X for Mac 10.1.0

When I try to "open as PDF" in Acrobat (5.0.5), error message says file
is corrupt. Can't print or "save as PDF" from Word either; the program
just spins the little beach ball 'til I force quit.

I've read most of what's posted on this newsgroup that's related, but
the fixes don't seem to apply.
The document in question is complex for 1 page, I suppose (lots of
images & text boxes), but the catalog that goes with it does all the
PDF stuff & prints fine, at 2 pages and with even more images & boxes.
The fonts are the same too.

Can anyone help? Do I need to start all over?
Thanks,
Robin

Hello Robin,

Beth's reference should help you to fix it. Just in case the following is
more specific to your problem, though, try this *in addition*:

I had exactly the same problem the other day. People who opened the PDF in
Windows for me were able to determine it was font corruption. The 35-page
Word document was supremely important, so it justified tracking down the
corrupted font -- I had no evidence that it was involved in the document,
but I pressed on. I deleted half the pages from the PDF, found which half
opened, went back to the Word document and saved that half as PDF, and so
on. Then when I got to the page on which the corrupt font resided I saved
half the paragraphs on the page (that will of course be your starting
point). Eventually (took half an hour in all) the culprit was found: one
character, to all appearances in the same font as many other sentences. I
deleted it from the Word document and there has been no problem since.

Cause a mystery, cure found. Common in our world... ;-)

Cheers,

Clive Huggan
