word doc crashed all styles now called char some formatting lost

Created new styles. Blocked some unused styles. Saved then doc crashed. When
opened again all paragraphs had "char" as their style name. Retained some of
the original formatting but lost majority of bullets and some fonts were made
bold in weird places.

Also question as to what is the max word or page limit for word documents?

Have you updated Word with all the latest patches?

The usual reason for getting the CHAR styles is the way you select the
paragraph to edit. You either have to have the cursor in the paragraph (with
nothing selected) or you must select the whole paragraph including the end
paragraph mark. Otherwise the CHAR styles rise. Also make sure that Keep
Track of Formatting is disabled. But updating should minimise the problem.
