Word doc extensions

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

I recently loaded Office 2008, and now when I send any .doc file or resave a .docx into the previous format, some non-Mac recipients can't open them. I thought it might be a gmail issue, but further checking indicates in might not be. Any ideas?

What format are you sending them in? Make sure you're not sending
AppleDouble or BinHex to Windows users, they may not be set up for it.

Send MIME format. That will work on any machine. Microsoft Office does not
use the resource fork, so there's no point in sending AppleDouble for Office
files.

Are you adding the correct extension? (Don't try to cheat -- if it's a
..docx say so. If you use the .doc extension, with some email programs you
will get this problem.)

Cheers
