Word Doc grows to extreme size with images

MS Office 2000 on XP Home SR2 updates current
When inserting images into a document the result is an extreme increase in
size (~10 fold).
I have made the suggested registry change below as per the kbAlertz site
found by googling and which is consistent with MS Knowledge base article.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Options.

ExportPictureWithMetafile - Value data box, type 0, and then click OK

The problem still persists. I start with a 244kb word doc (travelogue) and
after inserting ~ 50 pictures it has grown to more than 400MB.

Any suggestions?

How are you inserting the images?

If you're copying from some other application (Internet Explorer, Photoshop,
PowerPoint, etc.) and pasting into Word, then that's probably the problem.
