Hi,
I'm having problems with a Word document at work (Word 2000). It's a
lengthy document and I have it open all through the day as I am constantly
updating it. It is in a folder on our company network which makes it
visible to all users. I like to click on the 'save' icon at various points
as I go along updating it but sometimes, I after I click the 'save' icon, I
get presented with the 'Save As' box and the banner across the top states
that the document is read-only so I have to save it with another file name.
The PC Support guys at work are baffled by this. They have used logging
software to monitor the document and at the same time I have been keeping a
log of the dates and times that this happens. Nothing appears on the log to
indicate any problems.
I moved the document to another location on the network, higher up in the
folder hierarchy in case that was the problem. Again, same problem. I then
moved it to my own personal drive on the network (which is not accessible by
anyone else) and that worked fine - it never reverted to read-only.
This leads me to think that the problem must be occurring when someone else
has the document open in read-only at the same time that I have it open for
editing, but surely the PC Support guys would have spotted this? Also, it's
never happened with any other documents that I've been working on that are
available to all users on the network.
Has anyone else come across this problem and if so, can you tell me why this
is happening and what I can do to stop it from happening again. The
document has to be available for other people to view at any time.
Many thanks
JB
