Word docs emailed to me are opening blank (greyed screen) in Print Mode

Office Home & Student 2019, Win 10 Pro. In the past three days, I've received two Word documents (.docx) by email that upon opening were blank, with a lightly greyed screen (vs. new doc white) in Print mode, although the page numbers show at the bottom. I just tried changing View to Read Mode and then the document showed. And when I switched back to Print Mode, it showed as it should have originally. What might be going on? One exception to this is that when I ran a test of emailing a doc to myself, it opened right off in Print Mode. Thanks,
