Word docs getting read only message when trying to save

I have several users that have saved a document just fine
but then "x" time later the open it again, edit it, and
then when they try to save again they get a message that
they can not save the document because it is read only.
They end up having to rename it or save it to another
location to work around it but that is a real hassel...
they have permissions in the folder that gives them all
the access they need to create, modify, etc. files they
place in the folder.

Does anyone have any thoughts or fixes???

This is almost certainly due to orphaned temporary files locking the
document. The reason /may/ be attributable to Word crashing, or not being
closed correctly - some users still switch off without shutting everything
down. Start by checking out:
