Word docs won't open "because dialog box is open"

All of a sudden, when I try to open word documents I get the error message
"the command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open." I've never
seen this before. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Howdy,

Are you certain that you do NOT have an open dialog?

I'd suggest that you close your windows one at a time. You
may well find that the message is correct: There may be a
dialog (Window) open that requires that you respond. Until
you do, Word will be "stuck."
