Word Documement Margin Problem

S

Steve

Hi there,

One of my work colleagues often has problems with margins in her Word
documents. The problem is that even though the Page Setup is A4 and the
margins are quite small, there's a really big right hand margin on her page
layout that we just can't remove or figure out why it's even there?

I've uploaded the document in question (52kb) to my personal web space to
demonstrate the problem. We're using Word 2003 and Windows XP.

Here's the document: http://tinyurl.com/2w7eo5

Thanks for any help in getting to the bottom of this.

At a guess, the document contains tracked changes or comments, and Word has
increased the right margin to allow for the "balloons."

Thanks for the reply Suzanne. Unfortunately, that's not it as the document
doesn't contain any tracked changes or comments. In fact, I've deleted the
table, then Selected All, then pressed Delete, and it seems like the issue
is still there with a blank document even. :-S

Hi Steve,

I had a look at your document and when I open it here I only see about a
page or so with a table - don't know if that's all it's meant to be.

It looks to me like the problem (or at least part of it) is that the
document is set as landscape and is set to have one column whose width is
15.24 cm.

I'm using Word 2003 and I went to Format/Columns, changed the number of
columns in the presets section to two, then changed it back to one again. The
width adjusted to 25.69 cm.

If the document is meant to be landscape that might be all you need to do.

If the document is meant to be portrait, I had to do the above then drag the
right border of the table over to narrow it before changing the page setup to
portrait (otherwise the right side of the table was off the page when I
changed to portrait).

There may be a better way to reset the column width and hopefully someone
can suggest it.

If the problem is happening with several documents then you may need to
amend the template on which the documents are based (possibly Normal.dot?).
If this is the case then check out this link:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
