Word document closes/crushes unexpectedly

When I open new MS Word document (I use Windows XP and MS Office 2003) and I
write several words, the document disapears from the screen without any
warning or subsequent error message. It happens also to newly opened older
documents. But sometimes the document keeps open for long time.

I had the same problem witm MS Outlook application, where the messages
behaved the same way, but the problem was solved by not using MS Word for MS
Outlook editing.

Can you help ?

try to delete Normal.dot file if doesn't hepl reinstall the Office
