Word document content duplicated each time document is opened

Each time I open a Word document, the content of the document is duplicated.
For example, if I create a new document containing the text "Foo" and Save &
Close, the next time I open the document it will contain the text "Foo"
twice. It's interesting to note that the scrollbar will jump to the bottom
of the document after opening.

Content does not duplicate when opening with trusty old 2003. I blew away
all of my tmp files, to no avail. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
It's making Word 2007 exciting to say the least.

An update: I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007. I applied Office SP1
(office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe). Still no luck, docs are still
duplicated when opening. It gets even funner when I save the document and
open it again, then the text of the document is displayed 4 times. Save and
open again, 8 times! Then 16, then 32. By tomorrow it will take over the
world - if I keep opening and closing, that is.

Any ideas, anybody? This is your chance to save the world from a rapidly
expanding word doc!

Look in the Macros dialog (Alt+F8) to see if there's a macro named AutoOpen.
That's the only explanation I can think of -- an AutoOpen macro that copies the
content of the document and pastes it at the end.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Office doesn't remove an altered Normal.dotm
template, so if there was some goofy macro there, it would still be there after
the (usually useless) reinstallation. The only thing that will help is to remove
(or at least rename) the macro -- or, more drastically, to remove or rename
Normal.dotm and let Word build a new one from the defaults when it restarts.

A step closer to solving the puzzle - there is indeed a strange macro named
AutoOpen. I have tried renaming the macro, deleting the macro, commenting
out the contents of the macro, and no luck. I even tried deleting
Normal.dotm and each time I start Word, the macro is back and intact.

Where else can it be hiding? How else can I kill it? Is it embedded in the
documents I'm trying to open?

I found the beast and slayed it. I travelled to \Documents and
Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and found there
normal.dotm, normal1.dotm, and a ghostly normal.dotm that had been open for
many moons (the kind of ghostly indicating that the file is open/in use -
what's the name for that state again?). I blew them all away. Duplication
no longer happens, documents lived happily ever after.
