word document fails to save

i've had word on my computer for several years now and have rarely run into
problems - until about a week ago. whenever i create a new word document -
whether i'm pasting in text from another document or typing text directly
into a new blank document - i cannot save my document. i click save and my
list of ms word document folders pops up. i double click on a word folder
and nothing happens. word totally freezes up. i have to shut down word
completely. i *can* open and save old documents, but i remain unable to save
new ones. please help! i have no idea how to get word to start saving new
documents again like it did before. thanks!

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 "Problems in Windows
Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update
MS06-015".

If you aren't comfortable with editing the Windows registry
yourself, then go to
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software -
Fix". Download and run the script to automatically modify your
registry as described in KB918165. You may need to temporarily
disable your antivirus program in order to run the script.
