I've recently converted from Word98 to Word 2002. The doc
file extenstion in Word98 was lower case but in 2002 it is
upper case. I need it to be lower case for a mail merge
application I'm using with another software. I've tried
changing the name but it does work.

Can anyone help me change my file extensions from DOC to
doc?
Thanks

Although Windows remembers the case of filenames as you provide them, it
considers upper- and lower case as equivalent, which is why it won't let you
change the case directly. If you can be bothered doing them one at a time,
change the extension to something else, then to DOC.

But is this really the problem? Windows software is not supposed to treat
filenames as case-sensitive, and I've never seen any software for which it
mattered. None of the file-handling operations built in to the operating
system will make a distinction.
