Word document not responding

Hi,

I have a word document that is starting to work really slow and it keeps
crashing after a few minutes. It is a thesis written on 2 computers and
combined from time to time. Right now it is at 145 pages, filled with cross
references, tables, footnotes etc.

Is it typical that word experience these problems with so large documents
and is there anything you can do about it.

The worst option would be to split it up and hope for good luck when putting
it together afgain, so hopefuly someone can provide a better solution.

It is word 2003, but I used the forum search and found the solution by using
the open and repair function.
