Muhammad,

Does this sound familiar, don't feel alone. If you find a
better answer please let me know!!

After upgrading our servers to Windows 2000 and
workstations to XP Office 2002 sp2 applications are
creating read only errors. It seems that temporary files
are not closing out properly in the user directory. When
the user trys to open the file they get a read only error.

The only solution is to delete all temporary files in the
user directory and restart the computer.

Has anyone run across this problem? or is it just chatter
on my network?

Muhammad,

I've noticed after you delete the users temporary file
you have to shutdown and turn off the computer, clearing
the RAM.

When it boots up they should be able to get into their
file without it being read only. I instruct all my users
to shut down their computers at night anyhow, this seems
to clear most of the problems and protect the equipment
from power surges. The servers however accumulate a large
number of ~.tmp files which I delete weekly.

As to why this is happening? I'm begining to think only
Microsoft can answer. At first I thought it was my hubs
since I run HPVG100, HP10/100 and HP10/100/1000 in a
multiple VLAN configuration.

Glad to see others with the same problem. Check out and
watch July 8, 2003 2:34 From lyghthouse (Knowledge base)
she has the same problem.

I have a call out to Microsoft, now that I can rule out
my configuration. Microsoft might just talk to me.
