Word document opened from browser

P

Peter Karlström

Hi

A COM-Addin I created for a customer is used together with a Web-based
system. When a user selects to open a document in the browser, the file is
opened directly in Word, not in a browser window.
The file itself is placed in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Now to our problem.

The Addin is made for all versions of Word from Word 2000, and the behaviour
has been the same all along. The problems occur in Word 2007.
When the document is opened and some text have been written into it, we want
to save it.
An error-message is desplayed telling us that the the file could not be
saved due to an authority problem. If I add some more text and try agian, it
sometimes works.

Is there any special rules regarding the work with Word-files in the
Temporary Internet Files folder for Word 2007, that not was the case for
earlier versions of Word?

Thanks in advance

Hi

Some more facts:

* The Error message nbr is 5487.
* The same procedure is used from the customers windows client of the same
system without any errors. These files are opened from an ordinary
TEMP-folder.
* The executing user has full read/write-access to the folder

Any help is most appreciated.

Hi Peter,

I was trying to re-produce the problem you met.

Need some more info:

1. When you say "Save the file", are you trying to save it in the Temporary
Internet Files folder?
2. How did you save the file? Manually (on Word UI) or programmically?
3. Is the file VBA enabled (*.docm)?
4. What is the OS version?
5. Is this a consistent error across more than one machine?

Meanwhile, you may want to take a look at the following blog article, which
may state the issue you met:

Hi Jie

OK, here comes the answers:
1. When you say "Save the file", are you trying to save it in the Temporary
Internet Files folder?
Yes, that's correct.
2. How did you save the file? Manually (on Word UI) or programmically?
Both using the COMAddins object.ActiveDocument.Save command and thru Words
Save Button icon.
3. Is the file VBA enabled (*.docm)?
No. This file is a .RTF file.
4. What is the OS version?
Clients are running Windows XP SP 2.
5. Is this a consistent error across more than one machine?
Yes, we get the error everywhere.

Best Regards

Hi Peter,

Thanks for you information.

I'm working on creating a clean machine with the environment you described
to try for a reproduce of the problem.

I've found some similar issues in KB but not exactly the same as yours. So
I think it will be better to test it myself.

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

If this is an urgent issue, you may also contact Microsoft CSS for
real-time or phone-based support at
