Re: Word 2003 document save functions ?

My operating system is windows XP professional addition,
with Microsoft word 2003!

I am experiencing a particular problem dealing with saving
word documents which should only be small KB of data
storage for document >> but comes out saved as large MB
file???

Example: old word document from word 97 is two pages is 88
kbytes....

The same document saved in word 2003 is 1.52 MB ????

I talked to dell software representative, he claims that
is normal ??

This problem creates both storage space issues and extra
long download times for attached files in e-mails

Can't anybody help Me correct this problem ????

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should
be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

7. Document corruption: See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.

We had a similar problem when upgrading from Word6 to
Word8, the size of the Word6 documents doubled when saved
as Word8. We found that if you created a new Word8
document and copied everything from the original Word6
that the document size was basically the same as the
original.
