Word Document will not show images

Recently had a computer crash, but after running repair tools, got machine
but to working order. I basically want to open a Word file (template) which
contains images. The problem is that all the images do not display. I have
verified on other machines and file it ok, have even tested on same machine
with OpenOffice and images display correctly. I am uninstalled entire Office
suite and re-installed and same error occurs. I have fixed registry file both
before and after re-install and still not showing images. Things like
Drawings made in Word display fine, but any images do not display. Iamges
will only show if I am the original creator of the file.
Any ideas, otherwise might have to keep on using OO for some functionality.
Thanks

Forgot to mention that the image tries to show-up, but instead simply showup
as grey boxes where the image should be. The size of the grey boxes matches
what the image should be, but actual image does not display.

Make sure that "Picture placeholders" is not checked on the View tab of

Everything is factory defaults. Like I said, I just did a full Office
uninstall and re-install last week. I was curious if there was a manual way
to remove all registry files. I know that the uninstall does not actually
uninstall everything and because of the computer crash, have a feeling that
something in the registry is preventing me to view files with images not
saved or created by me. Any ideas or instructions to completely remove
Word/Office?

Thanks

Make sure that you definitely have the latest printer and graphic drivers
installed. Don't go to the PC manufacturer's site but go to the printer and
card manufacturer's site to make sure they are the latest drivers.

This sounds suspiciously like the overlay refresh problems exhibited by both
the Intel GMA9xx chipset and the ATi chipsets.

Hi Mathew

I suspect your problem may be related to a recent Office 2003 'security
update' that Microsoft includes in the standard Windows updates. It has
caused our templates to have the same problem as you decribe.
We are able to fix the problem by changing our code that inserts the images.

The update is "Security Update for Word 2003 (KB917334)"

You can see the update history of the computer by clicking on Windows Update
(in All Programs) then click on 'Review your update history'. If you find
the above update in the recent list, you probably have this problem. You can
test this by rolling back the update & seeing if the template is 'fixed', or
you can try seeing if doing this Windows update on one of your other machines
causes it to 'break'. (btw, can always roll these things back from Add/rmv
prgs).

If this fits & you need more help post again to this thread, I will try to
look out for it.

Good luck.
