Perhaps you need this:

It is likely that the Word program installed on your system is not part
of Office 2007 while the document sent to you was created in Word 2007
and saved as such without realizing you may not have the same version.

Hope this helps.

My guess is that you are either not reading the error message correctly,
or not quoting the error message correctly. Are you sure the attachment
is a Word document? If yes, is it a Word 2007 document? If yes, and if
you have an older version of Word, then you can install the Office 2007
compatibility pack as described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=923505 "How to install the Microsoft
Office Compatibility Pack so that you can use earlier versions of Excel,
PowerPoint, and Word to open and to save files from 2007 Office
programs".

Word 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003 all share the same file format. If you
have one of these Word versions, and if the attachment was created with
one of these Word versions, then no converter should be needed. So the
other possibility that comes to mind is that the attachment became
corrupted at some point in the emailing process, and you should ask the
sender to send it to you again.
