Word documents delay opening when double clicked

Have a windows xp sp1 computer that whenever I double
click a document it takes minutes to open. If I open the
program that I want, and then browse to the document it
opens fine. I have checked under the folder options and
the file types are correct with the program that needs to
open it. Any Ideas on what would cause this? Thanks.

Hi Marcus,

You might try recreating the file associations for Word documents.
They may appear to be correct but it's possible something is missing.
Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
