Word documents do not open

In Word 2002, I am unable to open files by double-clicking on the icon for
the specific file. I first have to open Word with a blank document, then go
back and double-click on the file I want. What can I do to correct this
problem?

The first thing to try is to run Word using the /r (re-register) switch, to
see if it will repair the file association. With Word not running, in
Windows, click Start - Run - type winword.exe /r and press Enter.
