Word documents replaced with all Y's

Lately I've been receiving reports of some older Word documents (dated
2000 and earlier) are loading up as all "y"s or all the box character.

All virus protection (Sym. Corp. Ed) is in place and appears to be
functioning, and no reports of such a thing came before about a month ago.

Anyone run into such a thing before?

Thanks,
Brandt

Are you still using Word 2000 or have you moved on to a newer version of
Office?

We moved to XP quite a while ago. This has only started appearing in
the last month or so. I saw a similar article that suggested it might
be a font issue, but changing the fonts or cut/paste into notepad does
not recover the info.

Thanks,

Fonts are handled completely differently in XP, so I cannot rule this out
but I don't know enough about fonts to be able to help with that. There are
viruses around that can cause this but Norton should be able to catch them
easily. However, you can double check to make certain by downloading Stinger
from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ .

Are you using Windows 2000 server and what servicepack level are you
running?
