I am using office 2008 home and students version to write papers for a class I am taking. When I try to send one as an email attachment, it is saved as a binary file and won't open. I am not very technical, so could someone give me a simple explanation how I can correct this.

thanks

*Do you mean saved on the *recipient's* end?
*What format is your file saved as?
*What email program are you using?
*What version of Word is the recipient using?
*Is this an independent user or someone in an Exchange Server environment?

When I save the document as a docx file. I guess this is the default choice for office 2008. I am taking an online course from a university and I need to attach my assignments and post them on a board where the other students in the class can read them. When I did this and I tried to open the attachment to look at it myself, I couldn't open it because it said it was a binary file. Then I tried to email it to myself and the same thing happened. Sorry, thats about the best explanation I can give.

It sounds like you have an improper encoding method set for attachments.

If using Entourage go to Entourage> Preferences> Compose. In the Attachments
section set Encode for: to either Any Computer (AppleDouble) or Windows
(MIME/Base64). Either should do the trick.

If using Apple's Mail; The next time you select an attachment be sure to
check the box at the bottom of the window for "Send Windows Friendly
Attachments" - it will stay checked until you ever decide to remove it.

If there's still a problem be sure to include as much detail as you can when
you post back.
