Word Documents will not open.

In recent days many of my MS Word Documents will not open. I am getting
prompts of check file permission, file name is too long, etc. In Properties
it shows the files are empty, etc. I have repaired the MS Word, I have
rebooted, restarted, etc. I have been working with these same files for a
very long time and these issues have never come up. Need help. Work is
stopped cold. Thank you much.

O.K. I just went through hell with a similar problem trying to open my Word
2002 documents with my Vista Home Premium. Like all of a sudden I got error
messages "The document name or path is not valid....." on documents I was
always able to access before! They were there - I just couldn't open them!
My husband had me transfer them to my Flash Drive and he also put them on his
portable disc so we wouldn't lose them. After trying everything else I
tried, and calling everyone, I just as a last hope tried sending them from
the portable drives back to My Documents and VOILA! They went back onto my
Word 2002 and I was all of a sudden able to open them! It definetely seems
to be an Operating System glitch that the Vista somehow fixed itself with
some nudging. I hope this helps someone else, because all of the "Support" I
tried was anything but. Just some morons in faraway places pretending to be
human!

Hello Dorothy. The issue is challenging enough - but I agree when you say
that 'support' is empty, at times. I am talking with MS Support about this
issue and learned the first person I worked with steered me completely off
course. I am talking with another Support Tech today and hope I will get the
direction I need.

I am working in XP, not Vista, but nonetheless, the difficulty is the same -
can't open some docs. I had these docs on a memory stick and saw they were
not opening, etc., so I sent them to my hard drive thinking I could open them
there, but it did not happen. In fact, the issue has now traveled to other
docs., even those I have not opened in a long time! It is confusing and
takes so much time!

I will let you know what MS Support and I come up with as a diagnosis and
resolution to this problem. I hope it may help others in the Discussion
Group.

Thank you for your information Dorothy.
