word documents won't open

I have a new Mac. I had a temporary version of Word, then I installed
Microsoft Office 2004.

When I have a Word document saved (for instance, on the desktop) and I
click on it, it opens it through the trial version of Word and tells my
trial has expired and that I have to buy Word.

I have to open Microsoft word first and then open the document for it
to open.

How can I make it so that I click on the document and then it opens
through the the versio of Word I bought and installed?

The problem is that you have not fully uninstalled the trial version.
You need to use the uninstall program included with Office. I suggest
that you uninstall completely and then install the paid-for version of
Office afresh. m.
