When I open a Word document from the yellow folder in a Word window, it
comes up in a 10 font with all kinds of history at the end of it.
When I open it from Explore, it comes out OK.
What is the solution to this nonsense?

Open Word. Hit File-Open. Change the FILES OF TYPE to Word documents.
Likely, it now reads "recover text from any file". Just change it once and
you'll be fine. From now on, if you ever use that feature, it's best to
remember to immediately switch it back. I can't believe MS did that to us...
