word does not open some .doc or .dot files

this problem started with a .dot file crashing and the
everytime i try to go into any .dot it comes up with a
message "recognised that a serious this doc caused a
serious error last time do yo wish to continue etc" the
same error is now starting to happen to other non-
template docs as well. Help??!!
