word does not retain default settings

[MS Word default settings not retained]

In setup, I identify the font, margins, etc I want and select "default". A
dialogue box says these settings will be saved as defaults. However, the
settings are not retained and when I reopen Word, the settings revert to the
original MS Word default settings.
