Word does not start up when I click on it; only in safe mode.

Word only presents the first little pop-up box. Other PC functions still work
but not Word. When I restart the PC, Word offers to open in safe mode due to
prior failure. How do I restore Word to operate normally again? I have
WindowsXP.
