Word doesn't appear on monitor???

I was happily working today.....

I have Windows XP Home with SP2.

I quit and saved a Word (Office XP) document. Came back later and tried to
open Word.

See the splash panel (with logo & copyright & stuff)....and then nothing.
There is a reference/visual in the toolbar down at the bottom of the screen
telling me that Word is running. Ctrl-Alt-Del also tells me Word is
running. But I can't see anything.

I've tried "System Restore".....but even going back a couple days my
computer tells me "Unable to restore....find another point". That's
bizarre.

I've opened other programs....Excel, for example, is not a problem. Also
ran Norton SystemsWorks 2005 one-button-fix.... Rebooted, etc. Cleared
cache, etc. I'm not in hi-tech, but I'm not a lost-neophyte either. So I'm
puzzled. Worse, I can work on my document.

I've also gone to Windows update....and to Office update....but clicking the
site to scan my computer tells me there is no new update.

Suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

John

Right-click on the Taskbar button. If the choices available include Maximize
and Minimize but not Restore, then Word has opened in a Normal window
offscreen. Open any other window, then right-click on an empty area of the
Taskbar and choose Cascade or one of the Tile options. This should bring the
Word window back in view. Use the mouse to move and size it to your
preference, then quit Word to set its position. When you restart Word, it
should open where you left it.

Suzanne,

THANKS! Found it. I have a 2-monitor setup (for Photoshop palettes, etc),
but for whatever reason Word decided to open on the second monitor (which I
keep off unless in use). How bizarre that this happened.....but in any
event, you've solved the problem.

Again, much thanks...

I started to add that this is a common result of using dual monitors (or
dueling monitors, as the case may be <g>).
