Word/draw/Rotate or Flip has all gray choices for a textbox why?

I want to rotate a textbox with its text. I click on Draw/Rotat or Flip and
the choices are all grayed out. Why? (I selected the box, not the text inside
and I tried the text also.)

Because text boxes in Word cannot be rotate or flipped.

You *can* create a regular rectangle (or most any) AutoShape, rt-click it to
add text & rotate the rectangle, but the text within will remain horizontal.
