Word- Drawing Toolbar problems

I've got Office v X for MAC. I have not been able to load
the drawing toolbar. When I attempt to do so the colored
ball just rotates and I have to "Force Quit" the Word
application.

Whats happening? I appreciate any help that anyone can give
