Word drop down menu arrows doesn't work

I have Word 2001 running on OS 9.2.2 and the drop-down menu
arrows do not lead to drop down boxes. They simply don't do
anything.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Note: the boxes
work just fine in Excel and Powerpoint.
