Word drops default printer

I have a user who works a lot in Word 2007, and every once in a while (2-3
weeks between occurrences), when she tries to print, Word throws an error
that there isn't a default printer. On the print box, she can then pull down
the menu and select her normal printer (which Word has already been printing
to as the default), but why is Word not seeing her default printer any more?
When I press Ctrl-Shift-I while the error is up, the code it returns is
200809, but I suspect that's a generic error that there's no default printer
(and I can't find anything on 200809 on Microsoft's site anyway).

The default printer is defined by Windows, so this is far more likely to be
a windows problem. However, if this is a networked printer, then the problem
may be with the network or the way the printer is installed. First port of
call with these sort of problems is to make sure you have the latest printer
driver from the manufacturer's support site and then delete and reinstall
the printer setting it as the Windows default.

The other possibility is that the user has some type of PDF utility that
lets the user 'print' (create) to a PDF file. After the PDF file is
'printed', the utility macro should switch the active selection back to the
Windows Default. If the utility is not up to date, the macro may not be
fully compatible and that is causing the problem.
