word duplicates a picture caption on another page

I inserted a picture and caption in a word document and the caption was
duplicated on another page. When I delete the caption, either one, the other
is also deleted. The same when I edit it. I can move the original caption
throughout the document but not the duplicate. I can actually move the
original and place it on top of the duplicate. I have several other pictures
with captions in the same document but none of them did it. All were created
the same way as well. Insert picture, insert text box with caption and
group. I have been using word for seven years and this is a first. (FYI - it
is Word-97) Any help??

What do you see when you press Alt+F9? If one of the fields is REF, it's a
cross-reference to the caption.
