Hi,

You can't change the orientation of the formatting palette, but you can
create your own toolbars and put any controls you please on them.
Toolbars can be horizontal, or rectangular. They can float or be docked.

To make your own toolbar, use View > Customize menus and toolbars.
Click the New button to make a small, empty toolbar stub.
Click the Commands tab to list all commands that you can put into your
toolbar. Drag the commands you desire one-by-one into your toolbar.
Right click on the command buttons once you drag them to your toolbar
for more options.
Click OK when done making your customized toolbar.

Whenever the Customize Menus and Toolbars dialog box is open you can
drag commands onto or from any menu or toolbar.

The Formatting Palette [Toolbox] can be dragged around by using its Title
Bar... If you snug it up to the bottom edge of the application Title Bar it
will snap into position & stay there. You cannot "rearrange" anything about
the Toolbox content or structure but you can collapse/expand it manually or
set it to do so automatically automatically.

For manual control: Double-click its Title Bar to minimize it, click any of
the Palette buttons to expand it when needed.

For automatic control: Click the bent arrow at the left end of its Title Bar
to "flip it over" & access its settings. Check the "When Inactive For:"
checkbox & adjust the Collapse or Fade options to suit your preference.
