Word error message, cannot save documents

When I open Word, or any document in Word, a Visual Basic Message appears
"Compile error in hidden module: main". When I click OK, the message changes
to "You cannot close Word because a dialog is active. Switch to Word 1st and
close this dialog". Then the first message pops back up and when I click OK,
the message disappears, Word or the document opens, but I cannot save any new
or modified documents. Please help.
