Word/Excel (2003) MailMerge Language Problem

A

Alex Maghen

Hi. I have an Excel spreadsheet with four columns:
* ChapterNumber (a number)
* PersianWord (text typed in the Farsi keyboard)
* HebrewWord (text typed in the Hebrew Keyboard)
* EnglishWord (text typed in the U.S. keyboard)

I have created a MailMerge template in Word (2003) that pulls in and formats
all 4 of these columns. It does a beautiful job with ONE really problemmatic
exception...

If the source column in Hebrew or Farsi has parentheses or curly braces
around it, when brought into Word, the TRAILING Parenthesis or Brace is
turned around. So, for example, if the Hebrew Column contains "(xxxx)", when
it's pulled into Word and displayed, it comes out ")xxxx)".

Help?

Thanks.

I had a quick look at this and managed to do a merge with a very simple
2-language example without seeing the problem you are seeing. However, I
suspect that precisely what happens may depend on
a. the installation language of the version of Office you are using. Is it
English (U.S.)? If not, I may have difficulty replicating this problem.
b. exactly how you are entering your text, and in which application. It may
be that your texts have invisible characters such as left-right direction
indicators that I'm not inserting.

If you like, despam my e-mail address and send me a sample of the Excel and
Word files (and prefereably, some info. on how you are entering text) and
I'll see if I can see anything useful.
