Word & Excel opening problem

I resently re-installed Microsoft Office on my XP. When I open Word and
Excel it opens a window which says "Preparing to Install". This happens
everytime! It won't go directly into the program if I select a particular
document and indicates that a window is open and can't open the document
until the window closes. I am presuming that it is the "Preparing to
Install" window is the one delaying it. It really slows the process down.
This doesn't happen with Power Point or other programs; just Word and Excel.
Is one of my settings wrong? And how do I correct this issue?

This problem is starting to become an aggrevation. The speed of opening
these 2 applications is very, very slow. What do I need to do to stop the
O/S from installing all the time?
