I have a Toshiba Qosmio and I decided to reformat it using the system
recovery disc. After Windows XP had been reinstalled I changed the
main user from my full name (I did not realise that the recovery disc
was prompting me for a user name) to Gareth (name) and Pappa (full
name) and added another user Benjamin.
I then installed Office 2000 from the user account Pappa which is an
adminstrrator group, however Word, Excel, etc will not run when logged
on as Pappa (administrator group), however it will run as Benjamin or
administrator when logged on as Pappa. If I log off Pappa and log on
as Benjamin the various office applications run fine from the various
short cuts.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing office, I have tried
renaming the Gareth / Pappa account back to my full name, but have now
run out of new ideas.
There are four CDs in this Office 2000 premium version so I installed
the software from the last three CDs. Rather bizarre but the
applications on them installed and run as expected
· Microsoft Photodraw version 2 that I have installed from CDs three
and four executes as expected from the shortcuts and by double
clicking PHOTODRW.EXE in explorer
· MS Publisher that was installed from the second CD also executes as
expected, albeit with the error message “cannot start office
assistant”
· Access gets as far as “Can’t find language DLL”
· Frontpage gets as far as sending an error report to MS
· Outlook gets as far as “the operation failed due to an installation
problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists;
please reinstall”
· Shortcut for Microsoft Office – Nothing happens
· Excel nothing happens
· Powerpoint nothing happens
· Word nothing happens, however if I “run as” a different user then
word starts up as you would expect and creates Normal.dot in the
relevant template directory. It does not get as far as creating
Normal.dot for the pappa user
C:\Documents\Benjamin\Application Data\Microsoft\Maler\Normal.dot
C:\Documents\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Maler\Normal.dot
The other applications also start up as expected when executed as a
different user
