Word exits unexpectedly when minimized

I just ran into this same issue with an XP Service Pack 1 system
running Office 2000. No service packs on Office. If they open
multiple documents and minimize them Word just closes. It takes about
8 - 10 seconds and it is gone. Nothing in the event viewer. The
process is gone according to task manager.

Since this seems unresolved for so long is there a fix short of a
reload?

You need to uninstall the Handwriting Recognition option. Run Office Setup
from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Go into Advance settings, Word,
Alternative Inputs and set the Handwriting Recognition as unavailable. Click
Ok and setup will remove the component. Note that you can reinstall it if
you need it and it will be OK again.
