Word field links never update (Vista/Word 2007)

Alan

I have a Word 2003 document that contains fields with links to data
in an Excel spreadsheet. When I use it on a PC with Windows XP and
Office 2003, updating the links (<Ctrl-A>, <F9>) works fine and
finishes in seconds. However, when I attempt to update the links in
the same file on a PC running Vista and Office 2007, it says it is
updating the links to the spreadsheet but never finishes.

I have done much searching on the Internet about this problem.
However, none of the suggestions I found worked, and there are a lot
of discrepancies in what I found (e.g.,
recommending things that are not even possible in Word 2007, like
turning off DDE).

Does anyone here have a suggestion re what I should try? I've
run out of options!

I originally made a similar post to the word.docmanagement group
but received no response in the last 10 days. I thought this group
may be the more appropriate one.

Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan,

Given that you've changed PCs and Operating Systems, it's highly unlikely the path from the Word document to the Excel workbook is
the same. Consequently, Word will be unable to find the Excel workbook unless you're actually telling it to change the link paths.
If you're keeping the files in a common folder on both systems, you can use the macro attached here:
