Word file changes to Dat

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have created a file in Microsoft Word.

When I send it via Apple Mail to another computer (pc) it is received as a .dat file, and is illegible.

Any suggestions?

A couple:

First - Use the Save As checkbox to Append file extensions,

Second - Use Mail's Edit> Attachments to select Windows Friendly
Attachments, &

Third - Zip the file & send the zipped version as the attachment.

Fourth - Communicate to the recipients [as best you can] that they need to
download the attachment & open that rather that opening directly from the
mail server... Zipping helps reinforce that.
