Word file error

This is my girl freinds problem, so bare with me if i am a
little iffy on some details...
She has been working on a word fils for some time,
involving both text and tables. after 3 or so hours of
work 2 nights ago, she saved on a floppy and went to bed.
the next day she went to re-open the file and it said that
the name was invalid. this is where is gets really fun...
so i told her to run a scan disk on her floppy, and it
found errors, i had her look in dos, and it said the
filename was improved.doc.doc so we had her change it to
get rid of the second .doc, but then it still wouldn't
open. so we had her e-mail me the original. i ran a scan
disk, it found errors, but no .doc.doc issue, and when i
try to open it, it says that it is not a valid filename,
and to make sure it is a .doc, which it indeed is. On a
whim i tried to oepn it in other programs, and most
wouldn't even bother, but excell said taht it couldn't
find the file, and to doa search for it, which i did, and
it was right where i said...
I am running office 97 on ME, she is running word 9.0(?)
and i belive 95
anyhelp would be great, and feel free to e-mail for
clarification

Saving to a floppy is one of the top three causes of document corruption.
Trying to open from a floppy is even worse. Have your girlfriend try copying
the file from the floppy to the HD before trying to open it, and caution her
never to save directly to a floppy again.
